Last week I closed the paid tier and told you the format of this newsletter is changing. Before I change anything, I want to hear what you would like more of, so this edition is short: two quick questions first, and then a bit of background on why the newsletter is changing.
What would you like more of in Balanced AI Insights?
How often would you like to hear from me?
One more: if there is an AI task in your finance work you are stuck on, hit reply and tell me. The most common answers will shape the next few editions.
Why this newsletter is changing
For two years, this newsletter was my learning system: I picked topics I needed to understand, tested them on real work, and wrote up what held up. A weekly deadline is a good teacher; it made me try tools I would otherwise have postponed, and decide what I thought about them before I had to explain them to other finance leaders.
Many of the templates I built for these editions ended up in my training, in client programs, AI Finance Club classes, and Claude in Action cohorts.
That system also had a cost. A full edition every week, with a paid section of templates and deliverables on top, was a lot of work, and the paid tier never grew enough to justify that second layer, so I closed it last week.
What I learned along the way is now my actual work: training finance teams on Claude and building workflows with them. It also changed how I produce this newsletter. I now run Claude agents that do the groundwork: one collects content ideas, one scans AI news for anything relevant to finance, and one helps with drafting.
The thinking stays mine: which topic matters this week, and what I would tell another CFO to do about it. To me, this is what using AI well looks like; the agents take the hours of searching and assembling, and I keep the judgment.
My goal is to spend under an hour a week on the newsletter, and keep the value for you and for myself.
That lets the newsletter serve you first, and the two questions above help me figure out what that means.
The news edition stays; everything else will follow your answers.
Thank you for reading over these two years, whether you joined in the first month or last week. I'll share what you told me in an upcoming edition.
One more experiment you may have noticed is the cover. I'm trying new styles with the same character, and this week it's a comic panel. Hit reply and tell me whether you like it.
